#WOWWED: It's WOW Wednesday

It's WOW Wednesday! HR leaders, execs, and managers: How do you WOW the people who go above and beyond for you in your business? Or, how have you been WOWed?

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Dustin. He says: "Our employees really enjoy the annual sports events we plan. Not only for the recognition value, but also for teambuilding and competition between remote site locations. We have a basketball tournament, fishing tournament, bowling tournament, etc.''

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Kimberly. She says: "As a non-profit organization our biggest challenge is having limited funds to do recognition events. Our most successful event is an Employee of the Month Crab Feast. (In Maryland, that's what we do!) However, with budget cuts we couldn't afford crabs this year. We thought the employees were going to take offense to such a time honored tradition, but they didn't. We held a hamburger/hot dog cookout with volleyball and got tremendous feedback. Employees said they felt even more appreciated by the fact that we still recognized them with an event, even if we weren't able to have a crab feast. It was a testament to the fact that employees appreciate recognition!"

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Mary. Mary says: "We have the Fish Awards Program. This program is designed around the Pikes Fish Market in Washington. The awards are named after fish that you can nominate a peer, boss or subordinate for. For example, there's the Salmon Award (working hard swimming up stream on a project), catfish award, shark award, dolphin award (communications), and the guppy award (little things that mean a lot). The big award is the Starfish Award (something that impacts many departments or the whole organization). Our employees have loved it."

The partner was on his way home from a business trip and the associate was on his way to a client meeting. The partner noticed he was stressed and was going to be working the entire flight (all 6 hours). So, the partner who had a 1st class ticket traded places with the associate who had a middle seat coach ticket back of the plane. They recognized, they acted and the associate was able to produce excellent work and was rested and ready to go for his meeting. I think that deserves a WOW!"
