Michigan-Based Employee Recognition Company Expands Its Reach Internationally

Terryberry celebrates its partnership with Australian-based Reasons 2 Reward through the publication of a trusted business fable.

Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) November 30, 2010
For more than nine decades, Terryberry has worked with businesses around the world to implement employee recognition programs that engage the workforce. Now the company marks its recent expansion into Australia by publishing the second edition of the motivational book, Reasons 2 Reward, in the U.S.

Reasons 2 Reward is a business fable written by employee motivation experts Ann-Maree O’Neill and Shawn McKeogh. O’Neill and McKeogh are also co-founders of an organization in Australia that recently partnered with Terryberry to provide products for recognizing employees. The organization bears the same name as the book – Reasons 2 Reward.

“We wrote the book to help managers understand how to transform their business by using the simple principle that engaged employees are the key to business success,” says O’Neill, one of the authors of the book.

The newly released second edition of the book Reasons 2 Reward tells the story of Max Grimshaw, the General Manager of the fictitious Wally World Theme Park. After some time away, Grimshaw returns to the park only to find out that things aren’t the way they used to be. Even though Wally World is filled with fun rides, spectacular shows and tasty treats, Max discovers that the employees are unmotivated and disengaged. Readers get to follow Max’s journey as he transforms Wally World with one simple formula: Look after your people + Look after your customers = Maximum Profits.

The second edition of Reasons 2 Reward features a foreword written by Terryberry’s managing partner, Mike Byam. Byam is also the author of The WOW! Workplace. The WOW! Workplace gives readers a blueprint for establishing a culture of recognition in the workplace.

Terryberry recently formed a partnership with Reasons 2 Reward. The joint venture will increase Terryberry’s business particularly in the areas of spot recognition items, online peer-to-peer recognition program (giveawow.com), and custom lapel pins for employee awards.

“The organization Reasons 2 Reward has established a solid presence in Australia for employee motivation products and services,” says Byam. “It was a great fit for Terryberry to partner with them to expand our presence in that part of the world. The book will be an addition to our line of products to help managers engage and inspire their teams.”

Terryberry Announces International Expansion

Global Demand for New Recognition Programs, Services Fuels Growth

(GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.) Nov. 17, 2010 - Terryberry, a 92-year-old provider of employee recognition programs and services, today announced its expansion into Europe through a partnership with JMPresentations (JMP) of London. JMP also specializes in employee reward and recognition programs.

“This expansion opens up a whole new market for us, which will undoubtedly enhance our capabilities internationally,” explained Mike Byam, fourth-generation managing partner of Terryberry. “It also allows us to better serve our global clients and their outstanding employees.”

The expansion is expected to increase Terryberry’s overall business by approximately 10 percent, particularly its online peer-to-peer recognition program, www.GiveAWow.com. Terryberry’s social media-style recognition programs have experienced 200-plus percent client growth in the past six months, a trend Terryberry’s leadership is confident will continue.

Byam said JMP offered an ideal cultural fit with Terryberry, as the companies share a mutual commitment to quality and exceptional customer service.

“We are thrilled to partner with a company like Terryberry, which truly is an industry leader,” said Craig Rebuck, JMP’s managing director.

Terryberry employs a team of 185 associates, with 25 sales offices throughout North America. The majority of its employees work at its world headquarters at 2033 Oak Industrial Dr. NE. in Grand Rapids, Mich. The expansion has initially added three local, full-time positions. Additional staff will be added as growth continues, Byam said.

Workplace employee recognition programs are not as well-established in Europe as in North America, providing an opportunity for Terryberry’s global growth.

Terryberry has been on a fast growth track in recent years. In 2008, Terryberry acquired the John Gray Awards of Cincinnati.

Terryberry is known for a variety of recognition products and services ranging from nursing pins for graduating nurses to championship rings for professional athletic teams to traditional service award programs for employee milestone achievements.

Founded by Herbert Terryberry in 1918, the company serves more than 25,000 clients throughout North America and Europe. For more information, please visit http://www.terryberry.com/.

#WOWWED: It's WOW Wednesday

It's WOW Wednesday! HR leaders, execs, and managers: how do you WOW the people who go above and beyond for you in your business? Or, how have you been WOWed?

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Lewis.
Lewis shared his recognition story with us by posting on Terryberry's facebook page. "An employee of ours found a wallet in the restroom with $1000 dollars in it and turned it in to the manager. When the customer came in and found the money was still in the wallet she sent a very nice letter to the office. We sent out a letter of recognition to the employee that was framed and gave her a check for $100. The cutomer was happy, the employee was happy, and we have received more letters about employees since then because the employees are going out of their way to do other things for the guests."

Harnessing the Power of Reward & Recognition

In the latest issue of FUNWORLD Magazine (November/December 2010), Terryberry authors Ann-Maree O’Neill and Shaun McKeogh give readers a step by step guide on how to build a successful recognition framework and explain why now is NOT the time to abandon employee appreciation programs.

“When times are tough and budgets are tight, organizations should be looking to expand their recognition programs instead of cutting them back…the lack of an effective employee incentive scheme often costs the business more in the long run. Research shows that recruiting and training a new staff member can cost as much as the original employee’s annual salary.”

As businesses anticipate the coming flight in the talent marketplace as baby-boomers retire and the economy improves, O’Neill and McKeogh drive home the idea that now, more than ever, is the most important time for organizations to “inspire, engage, and retain talented employees.”

Through effective recognition, business leaders have the opportunity to gain their employees’ loyalty and “maximize their creative effort in helping to realize the goals of the organization.” Day after day, leaders are called upon to be the motivator in chief, acting as a cheerleader for employees. In doing so, they can bolster morale and build a culture where positivity reigns and high fives are infectious!

So, how does one begin to implement a recognition initiative? O’Neill and McKeogh offer these five steps to follow when building a recognition framework:
1. Get Management on Board
2. Design Your Strategy
3. Provide the Tools
4. Share the Success
5. Be a Recognition Champion!

O’Neill and McKeogh realize that a little recognition can go a long way! In fact, recognition programs “can bring you a significant return on investment at a much smaller out of pocket expense.” Not to mention the fact that the incredible power of reward and recognition can “change attitudes and inspire workers to become engaged team members with shared visions.” After writing their book, “Reasons 2 Reward,” this savvy recognition duo developed six low-cost recognition tools that organizations can adopt and put into practice right away. Here is an abbreviated version of their fool-proof list:
1. Meet New Employees
2. Day-to-Day Recognition - The power of the hand-written note! A short message will do. Drop by someone’s desk to say “thank you” or make a quick phone call. This doesn’t take a lot of time or effort. It’s the thought and gesture that counts!
3. Recognition from the Top - A powerful way to recognize for an outstanding contribution is to have the chief executive or manager express their appreciation.
4. Make goals Achievable
5. Display it! - A physical award is a highly motivational tool. Show it off for colleagues or family members to see.
6. Encourage Peer-to-Peer Recognition - A popular way to introduce positive communication into the workplace. Give a WOW!

“Like laughter, motivation can be contagious. Reward those who achieve results, and the others will follow.”
