Presentation Ideas for Years-of-Service Award Events

It's WOW Wednesday! HR leaders, execs, and managers: How do you WOW the people who go above and beyond for you in your business? Or, how have you been WOWed?

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Terryberry in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
"To recognize the outstanding achievements of Terryberry employees in Michigan
and beyond, Terryberry hosted a dinner celebration to honor the years-of-service award recipients. Honorees included welcome aboard awards and anniversary levels 1 and 3, followed by increments of 5 years of service all the way to 50! WOW!

As your organization plans award celebrations, consider using Terryberry's helpful tools to prepare your remarks for that special occasion. An Awa
rd Presentation Cheat Sheet and tips for Employee Recognition Speeches can be found at www.terryberry.com/tools.

Remember to personalize each aspect of the event for your employees. Use this as an opportunity to showcase how ea
ch contribution connects into the company's mission, vision, and values. For example, you could prominently display special projects that people have worked on in the past year. This makes for a great conversation starter and encourages peer recognition!"

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Jaquilyn in Rogers, MN. She says:
"We have created a Caring Committee at work where we not only recognize those employees that deserve praise for work they have done, but this committee recognizes employees that are going through life changes (deaths in the family, divorce, new babies, etc). We send out cards and notes to them so that they know they are still being recognized through caring co-workers."

Informal Recognition: Little Acts of Appreciation Really Count

It's WOW Wednesday! HR leaders, execs, and managers: How do you WOW the people who go above and beyond for you in your business? Or, how have you been WOWed?

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Cam.
"We have a well developed recognition program for anniversary levels of employees. We're working on a developing a more informal program. Busy people overlook giving kudos now and then. Just walking by and saying '"I appreciate you" makes a difference. We gave out Terryberry's Recognize Me! boxes to three supervisors for a test and we hope to do this across the company within the year!"

Today's WOW Wednesday idea comes from Kimberly. She says: "As a non-profit organization our biggest challenge is having limited funds to do recognition events. Our most successful event is an Employee of the Month Crab Feast. (In Maryland, that's what we do!) However, with budget cuts we couldn't afford crabs this year. We thought the employees were going to take offense to such a time honored tradition, but they didn't. We held a hamburger/hot dog cookout with volleyball and got tremendous feedback. Employees said they felt even more appreciated by the fact that we still recognized them with an event, even if we weren't able to have a crab feast. It was a testament to the fact that employees appreciate recognition!"

The awards are named after fish that you can nominate a peer, boss or subordinate for. For example, there's the Salmon Award (working hard swimming up stream on a project), catfish award, shark award, dolphin award (communications), and the guppy award (little things that mean a lot). The big award is the Starfish Award (something that impacts many departments or the whole organization). Our employees have loved it."
